Our track record
Redwing was originally founded in 1991, and spent its first decade as a roving international startup SWAT team that helped mobile operators in the US, Europe and Asia launch overseas ventures.
Many of the companies we helped to set up are now multi-billion dollar entities. You can view a partial list of our global track record here ▼
The first incarnation of Redwing was acquired by a US internet firm in a multi-million dollar deal during the 1990s dot-com boom. Following this, Redwing’s principals formed an angel investment and incubator company which invested in a number of US tech startups. The most successful of these, xAd, now serves over 85 million unique users a month in the US with highly targeted local mobile advertising.
The second incarnation of Redwing was launched in Asia in 2007, with a primary focus on Indonesia. Initially focused on driving growth in multiple high-potential sectors, Redwing developed powerful business plans for a string of successful Indonesian companies. Redwing and the Indonesian tech sector
Having watched in dismay as Indonesia suffered during the Asian financial crisis in 1997, we watched with delight as it sailed through the global financial crisis of 2008. We’ve seen the country perform in bad times, so we understand many of its strengths in good times.
We are exceptionally bullish on the tech sector right now, and believe it will outperform most of the analysts’ current forecasts, as the perfect storm of a rising middle class, falling technology prices and a young tech-oriented population all come together.
Having said this, over the past few years we have seen two factors that inhibit the growth of the tech sector in Indonesia: firstly that Indonesia is something of a mystery to overseas investors and often does not appear in their asset allocation list, and secondly that overseas investors are an unknown quantity for most Indonesian tech companies. Yet each has so much to offer the other.
So we believe a bridge needs to be built between the two groups – as we say: “Indonesia’s tech sector needs bridges, not valleys”. This website is one aspect of our own bridge-building, and aims to raise everyone’s awareness of opportunities in the Indonesian tech sector.
Our section on Client Services describes what we do in more detail. By applying our expertise in startups, the tech industry and Indonesia, we help investors identify suitable investees, build growth strategies based on a sustainable business models, and oversee the execution of long-term growth plans. We do this under a variety of project constructs, from acting as investment and business advisors to actively participating in growth ventures.
And, having worked in a number of companies that grew from zero to multi-billion dollar entities, we know what it takes to build sizable companies. We focus on substantial investment opportunities in Indonesia, where the application of capital, skills and sound business plans can create significant financial returns for the founders and investors.
